Surrey school kids wowed audiences in the 2011 Celebration of Dance show, last week.

The show, now in its fourth year, was held at the Epsom Playhouse on June 28 and 29.

Groups of students from 15 primary and high schools across the county were chosen to participate, dancing to a mixture of songs, from Katy Perry to ‘Food Glorious Food’.

The event was sponsored by the North Surrey School Sports Partnership (NSSSP).

Louise Hales, School Sports Coordinator for the NSSSP, said the idea was to “showcase some of the excellent dance being produced by the schools in the borough, as well as providing an opportunity for young people to perform on a large stage.”

The youngest group in the show was The Mead Infants, 11 pupils from Years One and Two.

They performed a full rendition of Annie’s ‘It’s a Hard Knock Life’, singing as well as dancing.

The Mead’s Year Two teacher, Luisa Gray, said: “They were tremendous, their enthusiasm was excellent and they remembered everything.”

Lorraine Giangregorio, mother of 6-year-old Mead pupil Joseph, said: “Everyone was brilliant, the older ones were so focused and the younger ones really enjoyed it.”

Other performances included a disappearing act during a magic-themed dance by the Wallace Field Juniors, and a ballet recital by two girls from Epsom and Ewell High school.

Students from the Willets Academy of Performing Arts ended the night with a special dance showcase.
