Two pupils at Reed’s School in Cobham have been praised by Esher and Walton MP Ian Taylor, after they won a place in the National Science and Engineering Competition.
George Green and James Spencer entered a device called a calorimeter into the competition. It examines the energy content of various alternative fuels.
Mr Taylor, who was a science and technology minister in the last Tory government and is current chairman of the Conservative science and technology taskforce, said: “I have been hugely impressed by their deep understanding of science and innovative ideas.
“Science, technology, engineering and maths are key to the future prosperity of the UK. This competition is a great way of helping to find the scientists and engineers of the future and also encouraging pupils to get more involved in these subjects at school and beyond.”
The final of the competition, set up by the British Science Association, takes place at the Big Bang Science Fair in London.
