Grabbing any materials they could get their hands on, art and design students put their creativity to the test for Brooklands College’s annual Christmas card competition.

Students created a variety of masterpieces and used a range of materials in a bid to have their design used for the college’s official corporate Christmas card this year.

Marta Rybakowicz, 16, from Addlestone, was crowned as the winner and outshone over designs by using a technique called photogram, which produces a photographic image without a camera.

Everyday objects including rice, cloth, sticks and a sink plug were used in the design, and Marta placed them on to the surface of a piece of photographic paper and then exposed it to the light.

Polly Heatley, photography lecturer at Brooklands College, said: “The students have really enjoyed this competition as it has put their creativity to the test by turning a load of everyday items into a Christmas card that will be printed professionally, posted out and displayed in people’s homes.”
