Two exceptional Wimbledon schools are celebrating after being chosen for the Mayor of London’s new Schools’ Gold Club.

Ursuline High School and Wimbledon Chase Primary School received the award for exceptional teaching standards and ensuring children who are disadvantaged are stretched to achieve academic excellence.

Through the club, set to launch this autumn, the schools will be expected to share their experiences and practices with other schools, helping to raise their standards too.

Julia Walters, head of Ursuline, said: "It is wonderful that the hard work of our teaching staff and pupils has been recognised in this way.

"To be one of a very few schools to be chosen by the Mayor of London is a great achievement."

Sue Tomas, head of Wimbledon Chase, said: "We are all proud to have been given this award and will continue working hard to ensure we give the children every opportunity to achieve their full potential and the best possible start to their education."

146 schools across the capital have been chosen to be part of the scheme.
