Youngsters were congratulated for their spelling efforts last week after reaching a national final.
Kieran Rehal, Akash Gupta, and Karim Damji from Wilson's school in Wallington, just missed out on a place in the top four of the International foreign language spelling bee competition at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.
Former Eastenders Actor Larry Lamb presented prizes to winners, and said: "Being able to speak a foreign language is so important and we should be proud that our language teachers up and down the country are doing such a wonderful job preparing our youngsters with these vital skills.
The Year 7 pupils competed to correctly spell the most number of words in French, Spanish or German in 60 seconds.
The competition, sponsored by the European Commission, has seen a total of 52,423 youngsters take part from 375 schools across the country.
