A teenaged reading revolution is happening with the launch of an innovative online literary resource.

Wordebite.com is a new interactive reading website run mostly by young people under 20.

The site delivers regular bite-sized chunks of fiction directly to teenagers through their mobiles and laptops.

Maria Barrett, 49, of Oatlands Avenue, Weybridge, recruited a talented team of writers and filmmakers to create engaging, quality content that young people can access instantly and regularly online.

The team includes Jess Carrivick of Rydens Enterprise School, Ellie Johnson and Danny Hill of Heathside, Hannah Nouman of Esher College, Max Jukes of St Charles Borromeo and Will Barrett and Lily Hill from St Georges College.

Mrs Barrett said: “I am passionate about enthusing young people to love literature and believe that, by repacking good fiction into a format that teens are familiar with, we can reignite their interest.”

Wordebite’s first series, The Word, follows a group of teens from north London as they navigate the social minefield of growing up in the inner city.

The story is supported with video blogs from its central characters to help establish them in young readers’ minds.

Wordebite.com offers a variety of literature for 11 to 18 year olds that helps build confidence in reluctant readers as well as challenging bookworms not old enough for adult fiction.

Mrs Barrett is keen to find and support talent aspiring writers and filmmakers to add to the Wordebite creative pool. For more information, visit wordebite.com.
