Lee Boxell’s disappearance on September 10, 1988 prompted a nationwide search and appeal that hit the national headlines.

Among the celebrities to plead with the public for information were Wimbledon footballer John Fashanu and pop group T-Pau.

Lee’s was one of the first cases to be taken up by the Missing Persons Bureau but there have been no genuine sightings of him in 24 years despite numerous appeals.

A book in 1995 by Andrew O’Hagan looked at Lee’s disappearance and the effect it has had on parents Christine and Peter.

The author rewrote The Missing as a play, which was put on for the first time last year.

Aged 15 when he went missing, Lee would be 39 today.

The Missing People charity produced this image of how Lee may have looked in his 30s.
