Two unexploded hand grenades were discovered by police at an address in West Molesey yesterday.

Surrey Police carried out a search of an address in Walton Road at about 5pm yesterday and found the items in an upstairs room.

The surrounding addresses were evacuated as a precaution and Walton Road was cordoned off at the junctions with Grange Road and New Road.

Officers from the Explosive Ordnance Depot (EOD) examined the two grenades, which were quickly determined to be very old devices that were not live and did not pose any danger to members of the public.

The cordons have been lifted and the road was fully re-opened soon after.

The devices were seized by EOD and will be disposed of in a safe and controlled environment.

A number of other items from the address were seized by police including a small number of suspected cannabis plants.

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of class B drug offences in connection with the incident and remain in custody at Staines police station while the investigation continues.
