Brentford's teenage goalkeeper Clark Masters has been tipped as a future England international after being cleared to make his third League One appearance at Oldham on Saturday.

The 19-year-old, who won his appeal against being sent off in the 2-2 draw against Gillingham at the weekend, is already attracting interest from the likes of Arsenal, Spurs and Middlesbrough, and could eventually fetch a fee approaching £1milllion for the cash-strapped Bees.

With first-choice stopper Stuart Nelson ruled out for up to two weeks with an ankle injury, Brentford were relieved to find out Masters' red card had been rescinded.

Bees boss Leroy Rosenior said: "I am delighted a poor decision has been rectified.

"Outfield player John Mousinho did a great job as a substitute keeper against the Gills but we could not have asked him to start a match on goal.

"Now Clark can get some more experience. He is already being watched by Arsenal, Spurs and other top clubs.

"He has so much potential and, if he continues to progress, he has an excellent chance of playing for England."

Rosenior assistant John Griffin was even more emphatic, saying: "I am convinced Clark is a future England keeper.

"He is already one of the best in League One. He still has loads to learn, but he has everything."

Griffin, whose previous discovery Paul Smith literally saved the club with his £350,000 sale to Southampton days before Brentford looked doomed to administration three years ago, added: "Clark has good hands, can take crosses under pressure, kicks well and is as brave as a lion."

Masters was dismissed in the 23rd minute, after Gills striker Gary Mulligan went down as he rounded him.

Masters was "chuffed" at having the decision overturned.

He said: "I never doubted the decision was wrong, although I accepted it without argument.

"But you can never be sure until the panel make their minds up.

"The ref had to give a penalty in that situation, but no way was it a red card."

Mousinho, normally a midfielder or right-back, could d nothing to stop Michael Flynn's penalty, but earned the praise of Masters and Rosenior.

Rosenior said: "I only found out just before John went on that he had played in goal before. He's a young lad, so to go in goal and show that much calmness was impressive."

The Brentford boss had kept his promise to shake things up after eight winless league games, with youngsters Gavin Tomlin, Karle Carder-Andrews and Karleigh Osborne given starts.

Matt Heywood acrobatically headed in a 36th-minute equaliser and, as half-time approached, substitute Calum Willock put the Bees in front.

But, with 74 minutes gone, Flynn, who had previously had a goal disallowed for off-side, levelled the scores for Gillingham.
