People caught up with Olympic fever competed in their own games in St Leonard’s Church, Streatham on Monday.
But the sporting event was more sedate, with a knitting marathon, blindfold chocolate tasting, balloon race and suck the mint without crunching contest among the events on offer.
The St Leonard’s team shocked judges on the day in the synchronised tea drinking by adding gin to their tea cups.
Ahead of the day, the Rev Lisa Wright, a retired curate who chairs the Freedom Group of retired people at the church, said they had invited seven other retired people groups.
Ms Wright said: “To our amazement they all said they would come along.”
