St Raphael’s Hospice is on the hunt for willing volunteers to take part in two upcoming fundraising events, as part of the Wimbledon Guardian's and Sutton Guardian's Give a Quid campaign to raise funds for the hospice in its 25th year.

Next month, ladies are being asked to join fundraisers for the Midnight Memories women’s walk.

The hospice’s largest sponsored event of the year, bringing in more than £50,000 annually, kicks off at 11pm on September 22 and covers the grounds of North Cheam and Worcester Park, finishing at the St Bede’s Centre in the hospice grounds in London Road, Cheam.

This year’s walk will be yellow themed and all participants will receive free matching yellow polo shirts and a yellow wig.

Hospice fundraising organiser Suzi Forland said: “We hope everyone will come up with their own yellow ideas such as a new hairstyle using our yellow wigs.

“Last year 400 women took part and raised over £50,000, but we want over 500 this year.”

Firewalk 2012 gives fundraisers the chance to walk barefoot over a bed of red hot embers burning at over 1200 Fahrenheit.

Project manager Summer Welsh said: “Blaze is very much looking forward to working alongside St Raphael’s Hospice once again.

“We encourage those of you not brave enough to try it out to come along and watch, once you have seen the event you will want to walk at next year’s event.”

The event, on October 22, is also in aid of the hospice, raising money for people with life-threatening illnesses.

St Raphael’s Hospice has been treating terminally ill patients across the boroughs of Sutton and Merton since 1987.
