Senior police officers went “back to the floor” last week as they spoke to crime victims about improving the service.

Lambeth’s Superintendent David McLaren, Chief Inspector Stuart Bell and Detective Inspector Domenica Catino, attended a number of homes of victims of crime to find out how what they thought of the service they received from police.

The Big Wing operation is the first initiative where the focus is on victim care.

Superintendent David McLaren said: "One victim I spoke to in Streatham had her home burgled at the end of March this year.

"She advised me that she had not been given any contact details by the investigating officer.

"This is valuable feedback, so that we can ensure our officers have more communication with victims.

"I found the visits very enlightening and will progress lessons learned to improve the service we provide in Lambeth."

Commander Steve Watson, who is leading the operation for the Metropolitan Police, said: "Total Victim Care is about putting victims at the forefront of everything the MPS do and continuing to improve the service we provide.”
