Police have sent letters to the parents of children who attend two nursery schools in the borough following the arrest of a teacher last week.

A teacher was arrested on Thursday May 24 after a camera was found in staff room toilets.

The two nurseries were closed on Friday (May 25) as police searched the premises.

Although the device was found on the Wednesday, the nurseries remained open as usual on Thursday, a move which angered parents.

One parent, who has said they will not send their child back to the nursery where the camera was found, said: " It is shocking how this situation is being dealt with. We are being kept completely in the dark and we don't know what is going on."

Police this week sent a letter out to parents to reassure them it was doing everything in its powers to keep them informed.

The letter read: "As you may be aware legal proceedings against a 34-year-old man in connection with this allegation have now commenced.

"Therefore it is a matter of sub judice which means we are restricted about what information we are allowed to reveal."

James Hoffman appeared via videolink at Tower Bridge Magistrates Court on June 1 charged with voyeurism, possession of indecent images of children and one count of making an indecent image. He will appear again later this month.
