Music fans can listen to dozens of top rock acts on their own doorstep this bank holiday Monday as Banquet Records put on their own outdoor festival.

Banquet Records Big Day Out will take over Imber Court for the day with three main stages, 25 bands and thousands of fans expected to turn up.

Acts include Kids In Glass Houses, Neville Staple of the Specials, Futures, the Skints, Deaf Havana, Wheatus, the Lagan, Tall Ships and DJs Cyantific.

Banquet Records owner John Tolley said: “This is the biggest thing we’ve ever done. It’s only a few steps above what we do on a weekly basis.

“But it’s a big deal and outside our comfort zone.

“It is a celebration of our favourite bands. We haven’t booked a band we didn’t like.

“It is diverse. The headliner is Kids in Glass Houses who are no strangers to the top 40. We’ve got Hundred Reasons who are a band quite close to Kingston and they are playing their first album in full which was 10 years ago.

“Dave Rodigan and Neville Staple from the Specials, let’s say they are in their 50s and 60s and no one into music can have anything other than respect for the Specials.

“David Rodigan is an MBE and well into his 60s and he is still one of the most inspiring people I have ever met in music.”

On one of the other famous bands in the line-up, Wheatus.

Tolley said: “Who doesn’t want to hear Teenage Dirtbag?

“There’s a lot do and there’s a lot of problems we don’t yet know, I’m sure, but through the year we react as and when things come up. We are used to putting on gigs.”

At the time of this interview 1,300 tickets had been sold with as many as 3,000 expected to turn up.

Mr Tolley said: “There’s a holiday the next day. People shouldn’t have to go to work or have to go in a bit late.”
