Wow. What a difference sunshine makes to our lives.

People are generally happier, even smiling at you in the street. It Is so refreshing.

The other thing I noticed this week were the masses of brightly-coloured prams that come out of hibernation scattered all over the place.

It was great to see mothers and babies together and I have loved taking Elijah out to explore this new world. He is fascinated by trees, cars – and most other things to be honest – but seems bewildered by the fact there are so many people in the world and hates loud music in shops.

Anyway the good weather has allowed us to have some quality family time with long walks (he is in his pram of course) and even a trip to Petersham Nurseries, though he will have to wait before he can sample their yummy cakes.

The sun beaming down on us has also made me aware of baby health issues. Even if I needed a boost of vitamin D to bring some life to my sullen, tired face, my precious little son needs protection. Can we please discuss the extortionate price of baby sunscreen? My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I got to the till at Boots. For a brief moment I contemplated keeping my son in a dark room until the age of 18 and save myself several thousand pounds.

However, even though the sun was smiling down, Elijah was struggling to smile back. Yes, teething is in full swing. He has been a brave boy and has not really complained, but it is tough having those pearly whites pushing through. He has tried a few different ways to ease the pain – dribbling, sucking on his rubber giraffe and his favourite thing; grabbing my hair and pulling me in to chew my face. Those two bottom teeth may be small, but they sure hurt.
