A supermarket was closed for more than four and a half hours after flooding caused part of the roof to collapse.
Torrential rain damaged the roof of Sainsburys Purley Way, which is undergoing a £10m refurbishment, just before 3pm yesterday forcing the store to close.
Deputy Manager Chris Hockham, said: “We’re working quickly to repair the damage and the store will be open in a matter of hours.
“We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience and we look forward to seeing people back in our newly extended store very soon.”
The store was reopened at 7.30pm and is trading today.
The rain caused flooding across the borough.
Croydon Tramlink had to temporarily suspend their services in the town centre due to a large amount of surface flooding on the track.
Reeves Corner and Tamworth Road were the affected areas, with reports of flooding in Epsom Road and Summer Road.
