A church has been transformed into a community space open seven days a week.

The Bishop of Southwark, the Right Revd Christopher Chessun, accompanied by the new Mayor and Mayoress of Croydon, Councillor Eddy Arram and Mrs Judith Arram, unveiled new facilities at St Mary's Church, Sanderstead, allowing it to open its doors to the local community for seven days a week on May 26.

New facilities include a Jubilee Room for community meetings, a kitchen and toilets, funded through donations and a £50,000 community grant.

The Revd James Percival said: "We wanted to rekindle the old function of the parish church as a community centre.

"We hope it will be a significant change for the area to have space for a range of activities."

The plans for the newly renovated church include coffee mornings three days a week, and a regular mental health drop-in service.
