A former police officer is due to appear in court after alleged failings in rape investigations and sexual assault cases and allegedly making false statements and reports.
Ryan Coleman-Farrow, 30, faces 13 charges of misconduct in a public office relating to separate alleged offences between January 2007 and September 2010.
The former detective constable led investigations in the Sapphire Unit, which specialises in rape and sexual assault cases, and was based first in Kingston then under the Metropolitan Police central command.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) launched an investigation into concerns over how Mr Coleman-Farrow had conducted investigations and allegations that he had falsified statements and reports.
IPCC investigators obtained summons from Westminster Magistrates’ Court for Mr Coleman-Farrow to appear at the court on Wednesday, June 20.
Rosemary Fernandes, specialist lawyer with the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “The 13 charges include allegations that Mr Coleman Farrow failed to perform his duty in investigating rape and sexual assault cases, falsified entries on the police’s Crime Report Information System and falsified records of CPS decisions which had never actually been referred to the CPS.”
