The search has begun for Epsom’s best businesses following the launch of the borough’s annual awards on Friday.

The Canopy, in High Street, Epsom, hosted a launch breakfast for the Epsom and Ewell Business Excellence Awards 2012, attended by the borough’s chief executive, Frances Rutter, and a host of business leaders.

Chris Grayling MP said last year’s winners had benefitted in a variety of ways and urged people to take the opportunity to give their companies a boost this year.

He said there were three new categories for companies to enter - best training and development, best employer and best website or social media.

With more awards than last year, and with sponsors found for all 12 categories, Mr Grayling said the awards had got off to a flying start and hoped even more businesses would be nominated than last year.

He said: "I was delighted by the success of the first Epsom and Ewell Business Awards last year, and look forward to building on that success in 2012.

"We have a tremendous range of business strength here in Epsom - and the awards are an excellent way of highlighting some of our success stories.

"I urge everyone in our community to support the awards and vote for their favourite local businesses."

Gavin Dixon, of last year’s overall best business, Jelly Bugs, said: "Winning has been extremely beneficial for our business.

"Our staff and franchisees have felt appreciated for the work and effort they have put in which has kept morale high and is invaluable.

"Winning has helped promote customer loyalty and will undoubtedly help grow our business."
