Residents are being invited to be the first to walk the Wimbledon Way – a new walkway designed to bring the town’s heritage to life.
The route will be enhanced by podcasts and promotional materials to highlight the story of Wimbledon, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
A preview walk will take place tomorrow, May 26, tracing the planned route organised by Living Streets and the Merton Chamber of Commerce.
Walkers can collect a map between 11am and 4pm from the Piazza in Wimbledon town centre, which will guide them along a 2km heritage trail.
All walkers will receive a poster of the 2012 Wimbledon tennis championships and discounted entry to the Tennis Museum on the day.
A 3m tall steel stag, sculpted by artist Isabelle Southwood, will mark the start of the Wimbledon Way positioned on the newly developed Wimbledon station forecourt.
The sculpture, which was funded by a £20,000 grant, will be unveiled at Wimbledon Station on May 30 at 3.30pm.
