Three men have been convicted of a cash in transit robbery last year.

Daniel Collins, 28, of Clifton Road, South Norwood, Baffour Amponsah, 25, of Reigate Road, BR1 and Brian Ocaya, 28, of Moreton House, Southwark, were all found guilty of robbery at the Old Bailey.

The court heard on January 16, a G4S worker was delivering cash to a Lloyds TSB bank in Southwark Park Road, when he was approached from behind by a suspect who pushed him, knocking him off balance.

The suspect then grabbed the cash box and ran off towards Ambrose Street.

Less than an hour later a witness noticed five men, including Collins, Amponsah and Ocaya get out of a white transit van in a nearby car park.

Ocaya was then seen to take the cash box from the back of the van and place it on the floor.

The jury heard the men forced open the box which activated the glue and dye contained within it, rendering the money inside worthless.

As the men tried to access the money, plain-clothes police officers approached the men and they attempted to escape.

Amponsah and Ocaya were both detained and arrested at the scene, and were charged with robbery on June 16, 2011.

Collins was arrested at home on November 11, 2011, following an investigation by detectives. He was interviewed and bailed, but was charged with robbery 11 days later.

Detective Superintendent Nick Stevens, from the Flying Squad, said: "This is a fantastic result.

"The conviction should assist in deterring other criminals who think committing cash in transit robberies are a quick and easy way to get cash."

Amponsah pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing. All three men will be sentenced tomorrow.
