A man is accused of sexually assaulting a women in her own bed after a barbecue at her house.

Steffan Wakeford, 20, attended a booze-fuelled party at Hunters Close in Wallington last summer and got into bed with the host after she had gone to bed.

Croydon Crown Court heard the alleged victim tell the jury the man, who she believed to be her husband, got into bed and started to "touch her up".

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told jurors: "A man was in my bed and then someone opened the bedroom door.

"I told my husband to turn the light on as it was on his side of the bed.

"I realised the man next to me was not my husband and I shouted at him to get out."

Mr Wakeford, of Parsonsfield Road, Banstead, was chased out of the house by the alleged victim's husband and there was a stand-off either side of a car in the driveway.

The defendant attempted to calm the husband by telling him nothing had happened, but the alleged victim said he was a liar, and told her husband Wakeford had sexually assaulted her in her bed.

Defence lawyer Chris Draycott cross examined the alleged victim, claiming although his client did get into the woman's bed, nothing untoward happened.

He accused the alleged victim of making the story up to justify her husband's violent reaction.

Mr Wakeford denies one count of sexual assault.

The trial continues.
