An award-winning artist has been working with community groups to create a fire-inspired textile installation for a popular summer festival.
Kathy Schicker, known for her work with the British Museum, joined members of the Somali Women’s Sewing Group at the Sunnyhill Children’s Centre to make a sculpture which would reflect Streatham’s rich heritage.
The installation will feature at the Streatham Festival, which takes place from July 5 to 8.
Ms Schicker said: “It has been a fantastic opportunity to work with schools and community groups to help them learn new skills, to watch them becoming part of a big community project and to create something that everyone can enjoy for free.”
