Work on a new town square funded through a grant from the Mayor of London is set to begin.

Central Parade in New Addington is set to be transformed with a permanent events stage, play area, seating and a new pedestrian crossing to be installed using the £516,000 Outer London Fund grant.

Road surfaces will also be restored, additional planting put it and pathways laid thanks to a partnership of Croydon Council, New Addington Pathfinders, New Addington Business Partnership and hundreds of residents’ input.

Deputy Leader of the council with responsibility for regeneration an economic development, Councillor Tim Pollard, said the plan was "fantastic news" for New Addington.

"These plans have been welcomed by huge numbers of people in the local area and I’m sure that once the project is complete it will breathe new life into the whole parade," he said.

While works are underway there will be short-term changes to the market and parking arrangements.

The market will move to the car parks at the northern end of the parade before moving to its new permanent home on the slip road outside the shops every Tuesday and Friday.

While the market is in the car parks the ACA car park will be available for traders and public pay and display.
