Walkers sampled some of the borough’s most beautiful open spaces this weekend as they took on a 20 mile challenge.

The sun came out as 100 people took part in the first Epsom and Ewell Round the Borough Walk on Saturday 12 May.

The walkers raised over £3,000 for charities of their choice and the mayor’s charities.

The Round Borough Walk was granted the Inspire mark by the London 2012 Inspire programme which recognises projects inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic games.

The walk featured the stunning open spaces of Epsom and Walton Downs, Epsom Common Local Nature Reserve, Nonsuch Park, the Hogsmill Local Nature Reserve and Horton Country Park.

Councillor Sheila Carlson, Mayor of Epsom and Ewell Borough Council said: "Andy and I thoroughly enjoyed the Round the Borough Walk on Saturday.

"Passing through some of the most stunning locations in the borough, I couldn't think of a more fitting event to end our year as mayor and mayoress, although the following day my knees didn’t agree.

"Andy even found time to rescue a robin which had got trapped in Ewell Court Library.

"Thank you to everyone who took part and raised funds for charity and a big thank you to all our council employees who worked so hard to get this event off the ground."

The walk aims to encourage people to get active and challenge themselves to complete the 20 mile route at some time this year.

It is estimated to take around six to nine hours, depending on speed and length of breaks.

The walk will be a legacy of the 2012 Games and of the 75 years of Epsom and Ewell Borough Council.
