A vicar and a blind woman will abseil down a church tower next week.

Crowds are expected to gather at 12pm on Saturday, May 26, at St Martin’s Church, Epsom to watch the big plunge.

It is all in aid of the Bells Appeal, which aims to raise £14,000 for the refurbishment of the church bells.

The vicar, Reverend Simon Talbott, has already been promised nearly £2,500 in sponsorship for his own descent. The church will also hold its diamond jubilee fair on the same day.

Members of the congregation from the ages of 10 to 88 have decided to follow in his footsteps but they are still seeking more volunteers.

Anyone over 10 years old and weighing less than 16 stone can take part for a cost of £35.

You will receive a certificate and a chance to buy a photograph of yourself going over the top.
