A major heritage restoration project is looking for conservation enthusiasts to steward one of the county’s most romantic landscape features.

Painshill Park in Cobham needs volunteers at its crystal grotto, which got a £747,000 restoration grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund last year.

The grant will allow the grotto to be lined with minerals such as quartz and embedded with crystals to make dazzling stalactites.

It is currently undergoing its restoration and a voluntary team of grotto stewards will enable visitors to see the exciting transformation.

They will help create awareness by talking to visitors about the history of the grotto and its restoration.

Volunteers need to be over 18, have a good level of fitness, and be able to offer a minimum of three hours a month at the weekend.

Weekday opportunities are also available.
