Shoppers were told how they can keep their homes safe from opportunist burglars this week as part of a crime prevention initiative.
PC Duncan Harris, PC Mark Sullivan and PCSO Maria Farmer from Sutton North Safer Neighbourhoods Team were at B&Q in Carshalton Road on Friday, April 27.
Residential burglary in the borough decreased by 4.4 per cent this year, but householders can reduce their chances of becoming a victim of crime further by securing their homes and investing in good quality locks, alarms and CCTV.
PC Duncan Harris, crime prevention officer, said: “Burglars tend to look for properties where they see opportunities, such as doors, windows and side gates open - and where properties look unoccupied.”
“We are continuing to work closely with communities and Neighbourhood Watch groups across the borough to make Sutton a safer borough,”
