I don’t think you need a degree to guess that life changes quite a bit when a little person enters your world (something people always like to remind you about, even though I’ve tried to ignore it).

I’m not talking about broken sleep, eating takeaways or walking around in your pyjamas all day, I’m referring to how the world around you changes.

It seems like having a baby is contagious. So far, six of my friends have given birth during the four months since my son’s arrival on Boxing Day. It’s an epidemic.

I’m clearly trying to avoid the fact I’m growing up and nights out at the Works in Kingston and grabbing a bag of chips on the way home is now a thing of the past.

Last weekend, Michael and I decided to invite a few friends over for a proper catch up. However, as they began arriving, I realised there were more children in the house than adults.

We’d removed any objects that could be smashed, scratched or sucked... clearly we had underestimated the crafty skills of young children. Michael just managed to stop one of them chewing on a pine cone by the fire place.

Also, how can such small people produce such loud sounds? I thought the neighbours may complain to the council and an eviction notice would be served.

I had asked everyone to bring a bottle. Gone are the days when that meant a Malbec or Pinot Grigio.

Instead, I was presented with bottles of Elderflower presse and mango juice. Things have really changed. A party now meant cuddly toys and play mats while enjoying doughnuts and chocolate brownies.

The fact is; life has changed all around. It won’t be long until, instead of a good DVD, all I’ll be watching is CBeebies.
