A school choir’s impressive performance, which saw them reach the final of BBC One’s Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year, has gone out on television.
St George’s College Chamber Choir won its place in the final after fighting off competition at the Lowry Theatre in Manchester.
The semi-finals were screened on BBC One on Sunday, April 22.
Each choir performed a hymn to the audience and panel of judges made up of Russell Watson, David Grant and Suzi Digby, in the hope of securing one of the final three places.
Performing Be Thou My Vision, in a version commissioned specifically for the competition from Steven Grahl, the choir gave an emotive performance under the leadership of their conductor and director of music, Tansy Castledine.
The performance left the audience spellbound, and their captivated silence was momentarily unnerving, before they broke into rapturous applause and cheering.
The choir’s final performance will air on Songs of Praise on Sunday, April 29, at 5.15pm.
