A man caught with more than 100 images of child-sex abuse on his home computer has avoided an immediate jail sentence.

Simon Congram, 47, of Wallington, who uses a wheelchair because he has multiple sclerosis, pleaded guilty at Croydon Magistrates’ Court to posessing indecent photographs of children.

He downloaded the images – one graded level five by police, the level of child sex abuse image that can include child rape – from the internet.

The majority of the images were the lowest on the police grading scale.

He was caught when his computer IP address was traced as part of a wider police investigation.

The court heard Congram, who receives disability benefit, was “happy to be caught because he knew what he was doing was wrong.”

He pleaded guilty to five counts of possessing indecent photographs at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on April 2.

He was also given an eight-month suspended sentence and a five-year sexual offences prevention order.
