A teenager has appeared in court accused of killing his friend in a horrific crash on a stolen motorbike.

Dylan Roff, 16, died after a 125cc bike he was on smashed into a BT junction box in Hackbridge last year.

His friend Freddy Shelley, now 18, was this week charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

A 16-year-old, who cannot be named, faces the same charge.

The two teenagers are said to have caused Dylan’s death in a crash in London Road, in the early hours of July 13, after allegedly stealing the motorbike involved.

The 16-year-old was found with life-threatening injuries at about 5am by dog unit officers on routine patrol at the junction of London Road and Park Road.

He was taken to hospital and put on a life support machine, but his injuries were so serious his family decided to switch it off a day later.

Mr Shelley, of New Close, Mitcham, spent weeks in hospital himself.

Ten months later, following a lengthy police investigation, the Crown Prosecution Service this week took the decision to prosecute him.

He appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with causing death by dangerous driving and aggravated vehicle taking.

He did not enter a plea and was released on bail to appear again at Croydon Crown Court in July.

A 16-year-old is due to appear in front of magistrates next month accused of the same offences.

Tributes were paid to Dylan on a Facebook page, following his death.

One read: “I wish heaven had a phone so I could hear your voice again.”

Another said: “Life isn’t the same. We’ve gained a star in the sky but lost it in our life, although it will always be in our hearts.”
