Comedienne Jo Brand has refused to be drawn on claims she has 'let down' Streatham by criticising it on a television panel show - as her agent implied she was bored of receiving complaints from disgruntled residents.

Ms Brand, who condemned the town as a 'sh**hole' on Sunday night's Have I Got News for You, has so far only apologised for her remarks through her spokeswoman.

Today, she declined an offer from the Streatham Guardian to make a public apology.

But in a brazen message to the comedy website Chortle Brand's agent, Vivienne Clore, said: "Wouldnt believe the number of emails i have had from streathamites. Yawn" (sic).

In a second tweet, referring to the outrage over Brand's remarks, she said: "To be honest no one really cares until the papers stir it up."

Streatham Councillors have called on Mrs Brand, who lives in Dulwich, to perform a free gig in Streatham as a gesture to angry residents.

Town centre manager Angelina Purcell, who made the original complaint about Ms Brand's comment, said: "Maybe Jo will think twice before she does this again."
