Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of trying to steal a builder's digger in Hackbridge.
Police were called to London Road, by The Grange, Beddington Park, at 12.05am on Monday, April 23.
The two men, aged 16 and 18, are believed to have used an angle-grinder to cut through chains locking up the digger.
It is understood the digger was being used to carry out roadworks.
A witness called police after becoming suspicious when they saw the sparks from the cutting.
The men were arrested shortly after police arrived at the scene.
Keys found when searching one of the men, opened a nearby vehicle where an angle-grinder was found.
They remain in custody.
