MPs have had to step in to tackle problematic supermarket deliveries.

Residents of Banstead Road South, in Sutton, had threatened to picket outside the Co-operative supermarket after becoming incensed by delivery wagons.

MP Tom Brake and Sutton Councillor Peter Fosdike were contacted after residents complained about lorries getting stuck and even damaging vehicles during deliveries.

A meeting was called with senior management at the store and now the Co-op have agreed to use smaller lorries and promised to ensure parking bays are not blocked.

Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington, said: "While I appreciate that businesses need deliveries in order to provide their service to customers, it is unacceptable if these deliveries disrupt the lives of local residents on a daily basis.

"I am glad that Co-op management have recognised the seriousness of the situation and have come to the store personally."

Liberal Democrat Councillor Peter Fosdike said: "After threats of a picket and constant pressure from residents, myself and Tom Brake, Co-op top management have agreed a workable solution which should ease conditions for residents, bus passengers, local shop owners and shoppers."
