While most boroughs will see the Olympic torch for just one day on its way to the Olympic stadium, it will be in Wandsworth on four days.

The first chance to see the torch will be on July 23 when it enters the borough from the All England Club at about 5.30pm.

On its way it will travel along Wimbledon Park Road, Granville Road, Merton Road, Kimber Road, Garratt Lane, Upper Tooting Road, Tooting Bec Road, Elmbourne Road and Dr Johnson Avenue to Tooting Bec Common, where it will arrive between 6.30pm and 7pm.

The flame will spend the night on the common, where a free event with music and entertainment will be held starting at 5pm, with a celebration cauldron lit to mark its arrival.

The following morning it will leave the borough, but it will return at about 2pm on July 26 when it will pass along Cedars Road and Queenstown Road en route to Chelsea Bridge.

The following day it will travel down the Thames from Hampton Court past Wands-worth on its way to Tower Bridge and then on to the opening ceremony to mark the start of the 2012 Games.

Thirty-nine lucky men, women and children have been chosen to carrying the Olympic torch on July 23 as it passes through Wandsworth.

Sebastian Coe, chairman of Locog, said: “Today we bring the Olympic torch relay to life.

“The flame symbolises the Olympic spirit and its journey around the UK will bring the excitement of the Games to our streets.

“Now the people know the route the Olympic flame will be carried along and the torchbearers for their community, they can start planning how they might celebrate and make it Wandsworth’s moment to shine."
