The Holi festival makes a colourful return to Twickenham this year.
A traditional Hindu spring festival, celebrated on Saturday, March 10, Holi marks the end of winter and is known for its bright colours and cheerful atmosphere.
The tradition of festival-goers throwing brightly coloured powder on each other will be recreated at Orleans House Gallery, alongside free live performances of Indian music and dance including Bollywood and bhangra.
Twickenham streets will also come to life with theatre and music performances and Church Street will host an Indian market selling traditional crafts and goods.
Councillor Pamela Fleming, Richmond’s cabinet member for communities, business and culture, says the festival is a great day that has been celebrated in the borough for many years.
She says: “Twickenham town centre and Orleans House Gallery will be alive with music and dance. The throwing of colour is always a highlight.
“I encourage residents to come along and join in the fun.”
The festival has been organised by Richmond Council Arts Service in partnership with the Ethnic Minorities Advocacy Group and Twickenham Town Business Association.
Performances will take place in Twickenham town centre from 11.30am to 1.00pm and at Orleans House Gallery from 1pm to 4pm. For details call 020 8831 6000 or email artsinfo@richmond.gov.uk.
