A teenager has unearthed a collection of 19th century photographs giving a snapshot of Victorian Norwood while tracing her ancestry.
Grace Anthony, 17, was researching her family history with her mother when they made the discovery.
Ms Anthony said she was surprised how different Norwood was in the Victorian era.
Miss Anthony’s great-great-great-grandfather, William Myles Jackson, was a stonemason who worked on many of the West Norwood Cemetery’s mausoleums and headstones as well as part of the entrance archway.
Family memoirs describe how the scale Mr Jackson's work created a stir in Norwood.
The memoirs describe Mr Jackson building his own home – a large, square house on the corner of High Road and Canterbury Grove. But his descendants can find no trace of it.
Miss Anthony said: “We would really like to hear from anyone who knows whether the house is still standing or was demolished.”
