Armed robbers threatened staff at gunpoint and stole cash from PC World in Kingston town centre this morning.

The store in Fife Road has been closed all day.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said officers were called at 8.20am to reports of a robbery.

She said: "They threatened members of staff inside at gunpoint while they were preparing the shop to open.

"The suspects stole cash and made off in a vehicle in a unknown direction."

Police are not releasing descriptions of the suspects, or how many men there were, although town centre CCTV may have captured the robbery.

A resident in neighbouring block, who did not want to be named said they had heard an alarm go off last night twice after midnight.

He said: "I went to look out of the window but could not see anything and thought nothing of it.

"When it went off again about two hours later when I was in bed I got up again but didn’t see anything.

"I expected the police to turn up but they must have been when I went to bed because I did not hear anything."

A worker from Sony World, which is opposite PC World, said: "We turned up this morning and the police where everywhere.

"Nobody seemed to know much of what was going on but the shop has not been opened all day and lots of people have come in asking what happened.

"It must have happened before we got here because no one saw anything."
