Crystal Palace pair Sean Scannell and Jonathan Williams both expressed their delight after signing new contracts with the club yesterday.

Scannell, 22, and Williams, 17, have both impressed this season for the Eagles.

Scannell made his debut in 2007 and has since appeared 108 times for Palace scoring 12 goals in the process and put pen-to-paper on a new four-and-a-half contract.

Welsh U21 international Williams has only figured five times in the senior side but has made a big impression on manager Dougie Freedman and Palace fans alike.

“I am highly delighted that two of our younger players who have both come through the academy have decided to stay for a further number of years,” said a delighted Freedman.

“It is not all about getting players in but keeping our youngsters that we already have.

“In this case both youngsters have shown they are prepared to stay and further their education with Crystal Palace Football Club.”

Scannell, who has scored three goals in eight appearances this season, stated he could not see himself playing for any other team.

“I am really happy to have signed the contract with this club, it is the only place I want to be,” he said.

“I am so pleased that the boss has offered me a new deal and it’s good to see its all done I am able to speak about it being put to bed.”

Williams, who signed a three-and-a-half year deal, believes Palace is the best place to improve as a player.

“It is great for me to be signing, especially a deal of this length,” he said.

“I am over the moon really and I am looking forward to working with the boss and the rest of the staff to make me a better player.

“It has been great to be involved in the first team so early in my career and not only get the experience but work with the fellow players which can only help my game.”
