Richmond’s new mayor Clare Head and other guests were treated to an evening tour of Strawberry Hill House to mark the launch of a new exhibition.
Councillor Head gave a speech to assembled benefactors and supporters of the £9m restoration, before they browsed the house’s first ever exhibition - photographs of craftspeople involved with the work.
Speeches and drinks were held in the cafe at the house before guests were given the opportunity to look around Horace Walpole’s 18th century castle, last Thursday
Strawberry Hill House’s assistant director Jenny Eynon said: “Seeing the house in the twilight suits the Gothic atmosphere more than seeing it in bright sunshine.”
The house re-opened last October after being closed in 2008 for renovation.
Upcoming events include a twilight tour for the public in June.
The event also marked the launch of a new guidebook to the house, called Strawberry Hill and Horace Warpole: Essential Guide, written by John Iddon.
