A talented teenage dancer has lost her fight for life a week after being mown down by a hit and run driver.

A 21-year-old man handed himself into Croydon police station on Monday and was arrested following the death of school girl Alessia Boschiazzo on Friday.

The 14-year-old was rushed to hospital on February 25 after being hit by a car on Morland Road, Croydon.

She suffered severe head injuries and a broken pelvis and spent a week in a coma before she died surrounded by her family.

Alessia's father, Aldo Boschiazzo, said: “Alessia's death is being felt by everyone who knew her, hundreds of people. Life will never be the same again for us.”

The student, who attended Ursuline High School in Wimbledon, had been preparing herself for an audition at the Brit School.

Hundreds of friends and family members have flooded Facebook tribute pages with messages of support and condolences and at the scene of the collision dozens of memorials have been left.

Teenage friends of the dancer lined Morland Road over several days, leaving flowers and cards while fellow pupils at Ursuline High School have created a video on Youtube to her memory.

A two minute silence was held for Alessia by friends at the Pimlico Academy in Pimlico and another is scheduled for Friday at Morden Tube Station at 7pm.

Fellow dancers at the No Limit Dance and Art Company in Stockwell will be holding a memorial evening dedicated to Alessia on April 22 at the Lost Theatre in Lambeth.

Dance company director, Louise Lister said: “Everyone here is really upset.

"All of my dancers just can't believe what has happened.

“I hope whoever the driver he is he gets a sent down for a long , long time.”

The 21-year-old man was arrested by detectives on Monday night on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and arson.

He was bailed by police to return to a south London police station in May.
