Croydon Athletic won back-to-back league games for the first time this season as they beat relegation rivals Folkestone Invicta 2-1 at the KT Stadium.

Two goals from Frankie Sawyer was not enough to take them off the bottom of the Ryman Premier League but it did bring them level on points with Folkestone and only four points from safety.

The match began with both teams trying not to give anything away and a stalemate developed.

The away team looked the stronger team for a spell but were unable to reap awards with the Croydon defence standing firm.

With Sawyer looking dangerous up front for the Rams it was him who managed to get the first goal in the 39th minute with a well hit strike for his second goal in two league games for the Rams.

The second half saw Croydon with renewed vigour and a header from Tom Hughes went just wide of the target.

With Croydon pushing up field, Folkestone managed to get one notable chance in when Antonio Gonnella hit the top of the crossbar.

With the introduction of the two new Croydon Danish players, it was Lasse Weber who hit a great long range shot that the keeper managed to parry out to the lurking Sawyer to net his second of the game and put Croydon 2-0 up in the 77th minute.

Another great chance for the home side came when Dorian Smith hit a fine shot from outside the box that narrowly went over the bar.

Folkestone managed to pull one goal back in the 89th minute when Simon Austin got on the scoresheet, but it was all too late for Folkestone.
