Within my school library, my friends and I have twice participated in the Hounslow Teen Read Award. This is an annual event at which 6 books, recommended by carious school libraries, are read by the participating pupils and given scores on how good they are. In a later awards event at the Paul Robeson Theatre, which the students all attend, the winner is announced and there are different activities.

Last year was a fantastic event. We read the books and voted our favourite, Twilight, and went to the Paul Robeson Theatre for the awards. Ten other schools, including Gunnersbury and the Green School, were also there and we were able to interact with new people and get to know them. Sophie McKenzie, author of Blood Ties and Girl, Missing, was at the event and gave a talk on how she got inspiration for her books and what makes a book good and interesting to read. She also announced the winner, Twilight, and second and third place books, Before I Die and Hybrids.

This year, due to the awards day coinciding with the Gumley Feast Day, we weren’t able to attend. However we did read the books, some of which were fantastic.
