The hunt is on for a heroic hound to fill the paws of legendary pooch Pickles, who found the stolen World Cup trophy while trotting through South Norwood in 1966.

Legend has it the black and white mongrel was invited to help the victorious England side toast their triumph in the competition - even being allowed to lick the plates at the celebratory banquet.

Wagg Foods is searching for a ‘relative’ of Pickles to become the face of its new trophy-shaped dog treat, and win a year’s supply of dog food in the process.

Sales and marketing director Tom Page said: “As Pickles was such a good luck charm for us in 1966, what better way to spur on our team than tracking down one of his relatives?

“Hopefully a descendent of Pickles can help us go all the way in South Africa and become a modern day doggy hero.”

Anyone interested in entering can email a photo of their pet to pickles@waggfoods.co.uk explaining why their dog should be chosen.
