Staines Town website editor Laurence Wakefield has turned his attention to music with the recording of charity footy anthem "United We Are Staines".
The two-song CD is a celebration of the last three seasons at Staines Town football club, the greatest period in the club's 118 year history.
Recorded on a laptop, and sung by Laurence with sister Dawn providing backing vocals and Ian Byers the video editing, all proceeds will go to the heart unit at St Peter's hospital Chertsey, the people who saved club Chairman Alan Boon's life last summer.
The second song "Massive Is The Word" features goal commentary and interviews from the two FA Cup runs, which saw the Swans defeat Football League sides Stockport County and Shrewsbury Town as well as holding League One giants Millwall to a replay.
In his own words, Laurence describes the songs as in the same mould as England footy anthem Three Lions.
It is real hands in the air stuff, you're either gonna love this or hate it and the goal commentary in "Massive is the Word" is similar to that of the England World cup remixes and will put a chill down the spine of any Staines Town fan.
"It all came about last summer when I was lying in bed one night and a tune and some lyrics entered my head,” said Wakefield.
“I ended up staying up most of the night writing it all down so as I wouldn't forget the next morning! It had been a good 10 years since I had done any serious recording so I had no gear to put it down on but it had always been my intention to do a song for the club one day.
“I eventually ended up using the free Garageband music software built into my Macbook pro to record the music on and the clincher was the second FA cup run which I took match commentary samples from to get me motivated.
“I used to have about £8,000 worth of recording gear but ended up with the same results with some free music software on a laptop, thats how far technology has come in the last 10 years! The only costs were the studio hire for the vocals and the CD duplication plus artwork.”
Both songs along with the You Tube video can be viewed and downloaded free of charge with the option of donating to the heart fund at www.stainesmassive.co.uk
