Goalkeeper Louis Wells claimed two honours at Staines Town’s player-of-the-year awards, writes Stuart Moore.
He was a key figure in another successful season for the Wheatsheaf Lane club, which featured a draw with Millwall in the FA Cup in December and winning the Middlesex Senior Cup.
Wells was presented with the players’ and supporters’ player-of-the-year awards while Andre Scarlett was inaugural winner of the Swans Facebook Group player-of-the-year award.
Hyun-Jin Lee and Ben Nicholson picked up the reserve and youth team player of the year awards respectively.
The club also did plenty of good charitable work this season.
Commercial manager presented a cheque for almost £8,500 to the Heart Unit at St Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey.
Numerous events were undertaken by supporters and players alike over the year, including the ‘Walk-2-Woking’ back in March, when a dozen or so made journey from Wheatsheaf Park to Woking’s Kingfield Stadium on foot to cheer on the Swans.
Angie said: “This amazing amount was raised by players, staff and supporters of Staines Town FC.
“We started the fund raising off with £260 from a season-long ‘Final Points sweep-stake’ last August and this was followed by another lump sum from a Charity Golf Day in September.
“The remainder came from the 'Walk 2 Woking' on March 6, where fans walked or ran to Woking FC.
“We are also indebted to a terrific donation of £5,000 from the FA for the Swans reaching the second round of the FA Cup.”
Unfortunately, chairman Alan Boon was too unwell to attend the event, because his illness had been the inspiration behind raising funds for St Peter’s.
“We are thrilled that we have been able to donate this large sum of money to the very unit who saved our chairman’s life last year,” added Angie.
“I understand that Alan will be taking the cheque to the hospital in the next few days when he feels a little better.”
