Runners will be pounding the streets of Croydon once again next month when they take on the 10k challenge.

It was a record turn out for April's 10k race and fun run when more than 680 runners took part, with amateur athletes lining up alongside runners of all ages and abilities.

Olympic medallist Don Thompson, who won gold in the 50km walk in Rome in 1960, started the race before joining the field on the one-lap course.

The 27th Croydon 10k run will be held on Sunday, October 17, at Lloyd Park. Entries are already being received for the event and the organisers are hoping for a good turnout.

Twenty per cent of the profits from the race will be donated to Councillor Brenda Kirby's mayoral charities Home-Start Croydon and Croydon Opportunity Pre-school Group.

Entry forms can be found on-line at http://croydon10k.com/ EntryForm.html or downloaded and sent to Croydon 10k, PO box 2716, CR8 3ZH.
