This is the first time a bus has used the controversial Coulsdon Bypass bus lane since it’s creation four years ago.
The multi-million pound bypass, plagued by delays and held in derision by Cousldon residents and traders, was given the green light in 2004 but only on the condition a bus lane was created alongside it.
However, the bus lane remained unused for almost four years until the recent cold snap when the 405 bus from Purley was forced to steer clear of Coulsdon town centre.
The 405 now stops at a temporary bus stop on the bypass.
