Police joined Clapham residents and the Mayor of Lambeth to plant a new tree dedicated to a police officer who was killed on duty 17 years ago.
The tree was planted in the Westbury Estate in memory of PC Patrick Dunne, who died while responding to a shooting in Cato Road, Clapham, in 1993.
Gary Lloyd Nelson, 36, was eventually jailed in 2006 for PC Dunne’s murder, as well the murder of another man, 31-year-old William Danso.
The planting was part of Lambeth Council’s £3.5m Better Neighbourhoods programme, aiming to make Lambeth “greener, safer and more attractive”.
Funding has been allocated for around 250 extra new trees across the borough.
